Alongside our regular foodwatching, drinkswatching, healthwatching and menuwatching trendhub reports, our bi-annual Break Out Reports cover the main trends we've tracked over the past six months.
As we pass the half year point, we identify the big trends within total grocery and hospitality that look set to evolve further, as well as some of the individual categories and channels that we report on which are being particularly effected by the cost of living crisis and continued focus on health. The idea behind these additional summaries is that it should help you step back and look at total grocery and hospitality from a helicopter perspective.
In this summer's reports, we linked trends to two shades of purple predicted to influence this year and next, as a fun way of showcasing the creativity and resilience of the industry. Pantone's colour of the year is 'Very Peri' which is said to encourage creativity and imagination. This same ethos can be seen in the industry as it responds to rising food and energy prices with buckets of resilience and innovation.
As the year progresses we are likely to see another purple shade emerge - Digital Lavender - which has been predicted by WGSN to influence 2023. Digital Lavender is said to be calmer combining a sense of serenity and digital escapism. This stable approach can also be seen in food and drink as sustainability comes to the fore.
