French dairy spread brand Boursin has launched a new plant-based version of its globally popular Garlic & Herbs cheese spread in Sainsbury's this month, a first for the brand.
The new Vegan Garlic & Herb Cheese Spread comes in a 130g pot and is ready to be layered over your crackers or celery this Christmas by all. The new alternative option follows on from a Dairy Free Garlic & Herbs Spread that was introduced last year, but this new launch has got heads turning.
Célina Leroyer, senior brand manager at Boursin, said: "Boursin Plant-Based delivers the delicious Boursin-inspired taste consumers know and love, without compromising on indulgence and delicious flavour."
The new launch comes a year after parent company Bel Group introduced a vegan Babybel to the US market. At the time, Antoine Fievet, Chairman and CEO of the Bel Group, said: "Five generations into its history, our company has reached a milestone.
"We are today confronted with the challenge of feeding a growing world population, while preserving our planet's resources. The food business model that we all know is obsolete. It's time to open the road to healthier and responsible food for all. And we food manufacturers must provide real answers."
This summer, Bel Group's UK arm, Bel UK, followed up with the launch of vegan cheese brand Nurishh by popular demand. The range features a number of coconut oil-based vegan cheeses.
