The Good Food Guide has announced its list of the 100 Best Local Restaurants in Britain for 2024, collated from 60,000 nominations covering bistros, brasseries, pubs and cafés.
The winners of each region around the country are:
Central & East of England: Greyhound Inn – Pettistree
London: Mambow – Clapton
North East England: Bavette – Leeds
North West: Cibus – Levenshulme
Scotland: Fin & Grape – Edinburgh
South East: Med – Brighton
South West: North Street Kitchen – Fowey
Wales: Inn at the Sticks – Llansteffan
Amongst the top 100 list and the regional victors there was still once overall winner, an award which this year went to Horsforth's restaurant Bavette, in Leeds. This French bistro from husband and husband team Sandy Jarvis and Clément Cousin, Sandy in the kitchen and Clément running front of house.
Sandy said on Bavette's Instagram: "Whether you've been here a week or took a punt on us before we opened or already departed for pastures new we are so proud and honoured you make up the Bavette Family. To all the locals and regulars from Horsforth and Leeds, your support from day 1 has meant everything to us. All the calls, visits and cards saying how proud you are that your local restaurant won reinforces our hope that we have created a neighbourhood bistro that is part of the community. It says it above the door and we want it to forever be.
"Clément and I are still slightly in shock but determined to keep working hard to push Bavette to be the restaurant we dreamed of and planned from lockdown over a bottle or two. Somewhere filled with people having the best time, full of family, friends all catching up with our food and wine as the means to bring you all together."
