How desperate can you be for a cocktail that it deems necessary to carry all the paraphernalia associated with the beverage that you need it on your back? Well the creators of Gin & Luck must have thought very as they created this cocktail equivalent to a baby changing bag!
The canvas and leather backpack was designed by David Kaplan and Alex Day of Proprietors LLC, along with creative director Alexander Kwong. Kaplan and Day have worked on cocktail bars from Death & Co. and Demi Monde in New York City to The Rose in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Ellipsis in Mumbai and Bar & Kitchen in LA.
"We've loved the name Gin & Luck for a long time and always saw it as a lifestyle-based brand, with products that could be integrated into everyday life," says Day. "The name itself hearkens to craft with a nod to whimsy. The idea feels very current, a toast or celebration to today and every day to come—cheers to gin and luck. We travel constantly and wanted a bag that was suited to our lifestyle. We needed something for cocktail events only once in a while and an everyday work bag or traveller most of the time. This bag is suited for both."
Designed with a nod to military-issue quality and LA street style, the three-piece set is comprised of a rucksack made with over-dyed canvas in black or blue, nickel-plated hardware, saddle leather and water-resistant lining, as well as a cocktail shaker sleeve and toolkit. The pack's side-pocket saddlebags with a centre-cut hole at the top can safely carry two 750ml bottles of spirits.
Of course the bag can be used to carry other things, as can other bags be used to carry cocktail equipment. But if you feel you need a special bag, specially designed to carry cocktails, then this is the kit for you. Oh, and if you have $395 to spare – ouch!
