Australian supermarket chain Coles has revamped its transformed its health foods aisle with an increased focus on sports-performance and health products. The move sees many of the previous products listed in this category, such as fodmap-friendly foods, gluten-free products, oils and nut spreads, to their respective mainstream aisles.
The new products featuring heavily in the health foods section include protein bars and supplements from brands such as Body Science, Muscle Nation, Botanika Blends and Amazonia Raw.
"Our transformed health foods aisle is a giant leap towards delivering Coles' purpose to sustainably feed all Australians to help them lead happier and healthier lives," said Leanne White, GM, Coles.
"We're seeing more and more customers look for healthier options or specific dietary requirements in the main grocery aisles – they no longer expect to go down one dedicated aisle to find these options."
The move comes after the chain identified "Sports & Diet" as the fastest-growing segment of the supermarket's health food section between 2014 and 2019. The change also follows the move of a large number of health-focused cereals from the health foods aisle to the breakfast foods area as well.
