Having been in the role for nearly 50 years, Fay Maschler has confirmed the end of her time at the Evening Standard as its chief restaurant critic, her position having long been seen as an influential barometer of dining within London, informing decades of diners as to the best places in town.
Taking over the role shall be Jimi Famurewa, having already been a reviewer for some time at the Evening Standard, mostly as the ES Magazine restaurant critic, though previous notable work also includes Shortlist and GQ.
Though it would be logical to think Maschler would be eager for a break or perhaps even retirement, she shall in fact still be contributing sporadically to the Evening Standard, though has also announced a new job as the restaurant critic for Tatler.
For those keen to read the first review from Famurewa as chief restaurant critic, his first review for the Evening Standard in his new role shall be January 13th 2021.
