Food Hybrid Doughnut Ice Cream Cones Find a Home in Florida

Originally a Czech internet sensation, the Doughnut Ice Cream Cone will find a permanent home on the menu at Dough, South Tampa.

Dough's version of the infamous deep-fried spirals of sugar-coated goodness will be made fresh daily and served while supplies last. Each week, Dough will fill its flaky cone with a different doughnut-flavoured soft serve ice cream, announced each Monday via social media.

For its mouthwatering Florida debut, the Doughnut Ice Cream Cones will be filled with creamy swirls of house-made jelly doughnut-flavoured ice cream. Toppings will include bacon caramel popcorn, cotton candy, whipped cream, and a cherry.

This adventurous alternative to the classic cone is credited to Good Food Coffee and Bakery cafe in Prague, whose fried sensation took over the internet in February, drawing the attention of foodies on every social media platform and major news outlet. These specific desserts, inspired by the Czech trdelník, include a cone made from actual doughnut dough, a Nutella lining, and soft serve ice cream, are scarcely available in Eastern Europe and were not previously available in the United States.

Inspired by the images seen on Instagram, Dough decided to conduct a "Food Challenge" on Thursday, March 24, 2016 by creating it's own version of Prague's Doughnut Ice Cream Cones and encouraged foodies to let them know how they did. Dough's hand-crafted version took the cinnamon-coated, chimney cake to the next level, adding toppings like cotton candy and bacon caramel popcorn along with whipped cream and a cherry.

These treats were originally intended to be served for one day only as a way to entertain the imagination of foodies interested in Prague's chilled dessert, but were not necessarily going to make it out to Eastern Europe in the near future. However, the entire batch of Doughnut Ice Cream Cones crafted for Dough's March 24th Food Challenge event sold out in less than an hour.
