It's World Vegan Day - What's Happening Today?

It's World Vegan Day! Or if you go all out, it's the start of World Vegan Month. Either way you look at it, animal products are out the window. We take a look around to see what's going on in celebration.

The Burger giant is celebrating by giving away 900 free Vegan Burgers across its venues around the country. The burger in question is the Jackfruit Burger, featuring a butternut squash and quinoa patty, beetroot mayonnaise, Korean pulled jackfruit, pickled onions and rocket, all sandwiched between a sourdough bun.

Pizza Express
The UK's popular highstreet pizza chain is also getting in on the act having made improvements to their vegan menu offerings. Those purchasing a vegan main dish will receive a complimentary portion of dough balls, whether you're vegan or not it's a good deal.

The Meet, Clapham
Launching in London's Clapham North area this November, The Meet is an indulgent vegan pop-up combining comfort food with playful vegan cocktails. The menu offers a selection of dishes for committed vegans, experimental foodies as well as those who are just simply health-conscious. The Meet utilises the latest in meat free alternatives such as Seitan and Jackfruit alongside zingy herbs and spices to transform recognisable meaty dishes into unexpected vegan delights. To celebrate World Vegan Day The Meet will be offering 50% off food.

The Athenian, London & Bristol
Greek street food specialists The Athenian draw on Greece's healthy eating traditions and abundant fresh produce from its stunning natural landscape to create authentic vegan and vegetarian street food specialities. The venue has just introduced Vegan gyros, shavings of seitan marinated in herbs, lemon juice and olive served with vegan mayonnaise and oregano flecked fries.

Zia Lucia, Islington, London
Authentic Italian pizzeria Zia Lucia has become renowned for its four 48-hour slow-fermented pizza doughs: traditional white flour, wholemeal, gluten free and a black vegetable charcoal base. Zia's current most popular choice is 'La Vegana' a vegan butternut squash cream, scattered with fresh tomatoes, asparagus and sun-dried tomatoes.
