Key Insights From Our QSR & Fast Casual 2026 Report

The notion of "fast food" is turning on its head as the QSR and Fast Casual channels rise to meet consumer demand for fun, customisable, immersive dining experiences that also take in everyday health and wellbeing requirements - all wrapped up in the most convenient of packages. To see just how they're doing this, head over to the trendhub to check out our full QSR & Fast Casual 2026 report.

Here's a taster of what to expect, with our three top takeouts…

  1. Fancy Fast - QSR may not be the first channel most of us would turn to when looking for an elevated eating experience, but operators are hoping to change that by offering a fancier take on their usual fare. Japan's beloved Mos Burger has launched 'Mosh Burger & Bar' in Tokyo's fancy Ginza district, a posh play on the fast food formula that sees burgers made using premium ingredients, served alongside wines, beers and spirits. With Matsuya (Japan), KFC (US) and Khan Chacha (India) all launching similar concepts, could primo to-go be the next big thing in QSR?
  2. Spatcha - The 'fricy' trend is hitting matcha in a big way as operators cater to the piquant palate via fruit-based iced matcha offerings laced with chilli. Taking heavy cues from the spicy marg cocktail craze, these zero-proof all day options make use of chilli syrups and infusions, and come complete with Tajín rims - with social media posts taking the formula further by incorporating chilli crisp, sriracha and more into their daily matcha fix. If you ask us, it's a match-a made in heaven!
  3. Tailored Texture - Texture is, perhaps, the biggest story in QSR right now. Operators are fighting against the dreaded flavour fatigue by introducing layers of textural contrast into their dishes, helping to engage the diner far beyond flavour alone. One approach that's proving extremely popular in mainland Europe is the texture dip, whereby diners are given two separate dip pots - one with a sauce, the other a super-crunchy topping (think puffed rice, chicken skin, cornflakes, crispy onion or bacon bit) - into which already crunchy fries, chicken tenders, hash browns, even entire burgers can be dunked to create a double layer of shatter-crunch texture. As independent, regional and multi-national brands all get on board, expect to see something similar in a QSR near you soon...
