Because the only skin that should be extra crispy this summer is on your fried chicken, Kentucky Fried Chicken has produced an exclusive, limited run of Extra Crispy fried chicken-scented sunscreen.
For those who want to make the most of the final days of summer at the pool or beach, 3,000 bottles of SPF 30 Extra Crispy Sunscreen were made available earlier this August, while supplies last.
"Our chicken is hand breaded and freshly prepared in our kitchens all day every day, which is why you can smell our Kentucky Fried Chicken outside of our restaurants," said Kevin Hochman, chief marketing officer for KFC U.S. "Our Extra Crispy Sunscreen is a fun way to leverage that delicious aroma and let our fans live the Extra Crispy lifestyle for themselves."
Building on its successful formula of celebrities as Colonel Sanders, KFC introduced Hamilton as the Extra Crispy Colonel in its marketing campaign in June. He was the first product specific Colonel.
More than 50 percent of Americans don't know that KFC has two fried chicken recipes – Original Recipe and Extra Crispy. Extra Crispy Chicken and Tenders are super crunchy, juicy and cooked to a golden brown. They are double breaded and open fried to give them a signature crunch while staying very juicy and tender. As with Original Recipe, Extra Crispy Chicken is hand-breaded and prepared fresh by cooks in KFC restaurants all day, every day.
"While I'd love to tell you our customers have been asking for this, they haven't," Hochman added. "In fact, I'm pretty confident nobody ever asked for this. It's just some crazy idea we dreamed up."
