German supermarket chain Lidl has introduced an alternative ice cream choice for the summer in its UK stores - red wine ice cream, Sol Y Mar Red Wine Swirl.
The new, and somewhat divisive, frozen red wine sorbet with vanilla ice cream is by no means a world-first, but definitely falls in the rarer category if ice cream flavours and is a rare sight on supermarket shelves.
Aldi has taken the drive to get customer used to trying this new sweet treat flavour even further by offering a recipe on its website for consumers to make their own version at home. Neither the Sol Y Mar Red Wine Swirl, nor the home-made red wine recipe list exactly which bottle of the grape to use, but it's combined with golden caster sugar, double cream, full fat milk, egg yolks and vanilla extract.
