QSR chain McDonald's is set to phase out the traditional staff counters in its stores in the UK in favour of touch screens or its mobile app. The move comes after over 50% of customers now order in this way.
The change is also part of the fast food chain's £250 million investment and Convenience of the Future upgrade programme which will see 800 branches refurbished over the next four years.
In place of staffed counters in store, the venues will feature specific areas for different sales channels plus a collection window for customers.
Gareth Pearson, McDonald's UK and Ireland Chief Operations Officer, said: "The pace of change within the restaurant industry is relentless, and the pandemic accelerated this with digital adoption gathering greater pace.
"Our customers rightly expect to have choice in how and where they order and collect their food, and our job is to ensure that every experience is a great one. For this to be the case, we know we also have to provide our restaurant teams and delivery partners with the best possible environment to work in."
