Our latest seasonwatching report is now live, looking at what we've tracked across retail food and drink, as well as out of home food and drink, for Mother's Day this year.
Mother's Day is an important day to show all those mother figures in our lives just how much they mean to us, not only that but the extension towards friends and all supporters is even more prevalent.
Consumers are spending on relatively affordable, thoughtful gifts. Sustainably wrapped flowers, confectionary and easy brunch ideas made by little hands such as imperfect pancakes trend this year. Everyone is involved and accompanying traditional afternoon teas there is a cost-saving inspiration. Air-fried roast chicken with a seasonal chive sauce is one such delicious dish we've seen around.
We may be cutting back on everyday spend where possible, however, Spring events such as Mother's Day bring a chance to gift and treat that important person in our lives. To give you a feel of what to expect in the full report, we've collated our three key takeouts - listed below. tfp trendhub subscribers can access the report in full via the link and the bottom of this article.
1. Celebrate Spring - Rhubarb, artichokes, roast lamb and the sweeter taste of wild garlic all signal Spring, and we can't get enough. From warm sharable artichoke dips through to rhubarb battenburgs we're raising teacups and gathering to celebrate the start of Spring.
2. Surprise - People may be spending on themselves less given the cost of living crisis, however, when it comes to treating others smaller premium touches are welcome and the element of surprise when it comes to flavour is appreciated. A truffled roast chicken and creamy chive sauce brings umami and seasonal flavour to a relatively affordable roast, and rose petal masala truffles introduce a bit of spiciness into sweet.
3. Affordable Luxury - Sometimes it's the simple things in life that are appreciated the most and homemade brunch hacks trend. Dine in deals have a focus on cost per head, and confectionery sales look to get a boost as premium chocolate can be a relatively affordable way to show that we care.
