While the nation was mixing, flipping and chomping its way through millions of pancakes yesterday, Tesco was touring the country to find Britain's most popular pancake. It can now be revealed that 52% of us flip out about the traditional lemon and sugar pancake.
Tesco hosted its very own pancake pop-up station in five of its stores across the UK, located at New Malden, Gorton, Exeter Vale, Longton and Chester Broughton where Tesco Extra stores offered customers three pancake flavour combinations to choose from. The pancakes included 'The Traditional' (lemon and sugar), 'The Indulgent' (Nutella and strawberries) and 'The All American' (maple syrup and bacon).
Whilst the good old British lemon and sugar pancake came out the overall winner, 60% of customers in the South actually chose the All American as their outright winner enjoying the sweet and savoury flavour combinations.
Brian Jackson, Head of Buying at Tesco, said, "Shrove Tuesday is a great time to get creative in the kitchen and experiment with a range of different flavour combinations. It's great to see, however, that you still can't beat the simple lemon and sugar pancake, so no matter what your cooking skills are this Shrove Tuesday there really is a pancake for everyone to make and enjoy!"
