The latest stars to be awarded by Michelin in Great Britain and Ireland have been unveiled today with one new addition to the list of venues on three stars - L'Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria. Alongside the celebrated venues are five restaurants receiving two Michelin Stars in the 2022 Guide, two from London, two from Dublin and one from Powys, Wales.
Both Ikoyi, Jeremy Chan and Ire Hassan-Odukale's West African fine dining spot, and Clove Club, Isaac McHale, Daniel Willis and Johnny Smith's Shoreditch restaurant, both picked up their second stars. These were joined in the select list by Ynyshir, Wales, and Dublin's popular venues Chapter One by Mickael Viljanen, and Liath too.
There were then also 19 new additions on one star, including Scottish chef Adam Handling's Frog in Covent Garden and Santiago Lastra's 2021 Mexican opening, Kol, also in London.
Speaking of the awards, tfp Director and Co-Founder Charles Banks said: "It's that time of the year when Michelin bestow stars on the country's finest eateries that are worth a stop, a detour or a special journey! Unsurprisingly, London won the bulk of the stars awarded – six restaurants received their first star including The Frog by Adam Handling and Kol, the Mexican 2021 opening from Santiago Lastra.
"In other big news Simon Rogan's L'Enclume in Cartmel in Cumbria has been awarded three stars and Jeremy Chan and Ire Hassan-Odukale's Ikoyi, who presented at the 2018 TFP culinary congress, have won two stars. There were nine newly awarded green stars given to restaurants which combine culinary excellence with outstanding eco-friendly commitments and recognises restaurants at the forefront of the industry when it comes to their sustainable practices. But, perhaps most exciting are the awards that recognise the rising, next generation of culinary talent that is developing in the UK. This years Young Chef award has been scooped by not one but three young cooks – brothers Luke, Nathaniel and Theo Selby, who cook at Soho chef's table Evelyn's Table.
"In addition, 16 new restaurants have received Michelin's Bib Gourmand, outlets that deliver excellent food at a reasonable price – selfishly I'm most excited about Andria in Dartmouth in Devon, as it's on my doorstep and I have my table booked for next week! A huge congratulation to all of those chefs, brigades and front of house teams that have been recognised in the 2022 awards – it serves as a reminder of just how progressive the food scene is in the UK."
