The 2024 list of North America's 50 Best Bars has been announced, as part of the World's 50 Best lists, with Handshake Speakeasy in Mexico City taking top honours.
This hidden away drinking spot in in Mexico City's Colonia Juárez is led by Eric Van Beek who explores impressive techniques and methods across his curated drinks list. This is the third year in a row that Handshake Speakeasy has won Best Bar in Mexico, having previously sat second overall in the main list for North America in 2023.
New York establishments took the next three spots, from second to fourth, with Superbueno, Overstory and Martiny's featuring. Superbueno was a new entry on the list having only opened in April 2023. This Mexican-American cocktail bar in the East Village NYC delivers a sense of carefree playfulness in an upbeat environment.
Fifth place takes us back to Mexico City with Rayo featuring the best of Mexican produce and spirits. Guests are recommended the tasting menu, titled 'Mexico Through the Senses', for a full experience of the cocktails on offer.
