Better known for her vocal performances than her culinary skills, singer Kelis is the centre of Le Bun's latest pop-up. The collaboration, named Kelis x Le Bun, will be featured at Leicester House in Soho, London, for seven days this July, before touring an array of festivals around the country.
"We didn't know exactly what we wanted to do, but we liked the idea of getting together in a kitchen and trying some stuff out," said Le Bun co-founder Andy Taylor, after Kelis was booked to headline a festival Le Bun was providing the food for.
The menu is divided into "Street" and "Savage" sections, and combines Le Bun's signature French-American style with the South American and Asian flavours Kelis started experimenting with after touring the world.
Dishes include charred corn with truffle aioli, parmesan and chilli, and a banh mi served French dip style – a baguette filled with roasted pork shoulder, fig pate and crackling, plus a saucer of aromatic pork jus for dunking.
"It all feels really fresh and new," says Kelis. "I was in Vietnam a couple of months ago and the food I had there reminded me of things I grew up eating, which I found really interesting. I wanted the menu to speak to who I am, but also all these wonderful things I've tried."
London dates are 6, 7, 13 and 14 July, with further dates planned due to popular demand. Let us know what you think on Twitter @thefoodpeople
