Spain Michelin Stars 2013

The five restaurants that received three stars in last year’s guide were once again awarded the highest distinction this year: Akelare and Arzak in San Sebastián, Martín Berasategui in Lasarte-Oria (Guipúzcoa), Sant Pau in Sant Pol de Mar (Barcelona) and El Celler de Can Roca in Girona.

Two new restaurants received a third star in the 2013 edition of the guide: Azurmendi in Larrabetzu (Vizcaya), where Eneko ATXA serves up a distinctive, creative, well-balanced cuisine with authentic flavors, and Quique Dacosta in Dénia (Alicante), which features inventive, original cooking that constantly makes innovative use of textures and is firmly anchored in the regional culinary style.

Two new restaurants were inducted into the guide’s 2 stars category this year, for a total of 19 restaurants: Enoteca and Moments, both of which are in Barcelona. Located in Hotel Arts, Enoteca offers a cooking style that takes simplicity to a new level by faithfully preserving the flavors and textures of the ingredients, while Moments, housed in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, features a menu based entirely on superior products, imaginatively prepared and combined with ingredients that ensure the highest quality.
