Reverend JW Simpson, Fitzrovia’s famous cocktail expert, has been praising and preaching about some of the world’s oldest and long forgotten spirits in its series of cocktail master classes known as Spirited Sermons.
Having launched last year with Mead and Sherry master classes, Spirited Sermons continues to educate and inspire London’s cocktail enthusiasts and aficionados in 2014 on those ingredients that are rare and unused, forgotten and overlooked.
This February sees the return of Port to enliven and enrich our sullen winter palates. Long associated with stuffy dining rooms, gout-ridden gentlemen and inscrutable rules of etiquette, Port is an old fashioned drink in need of a makeover.
Rev JW Simpson will be dusting off this beautiful Portuguese tipple and introducing it to a new younger audience. This sweet and rich fortified wine is the perfect ingredient for cocktails, with Rev JW Simpson specialising in using port in some of its hugely popular drinks. Port drinking tradition has led to the drink being sipped on its own, but Rev JW Simpson is looking to break the mould and show the cocktail aficionados that port based renditions of cocktail classics are the way forward.
As a new cocktail bar created by the people behind Bourne & Hollingsworth, Reverend JW Simpson is an intimate space with a highly original design. It gives an insight into the life of its previous inhabitant and is already becoming a firm favourite with in-the-know Londoners. The key element of Rev. JW’s is its cocktail list. Focusing of Fizzes, Flips, Cobblers, Smashes and Sours, the cocktails are expertly made using timeless techniques, classic recipes and more unusual ingredients.
