American wine writer Alder Yarrow has announced the success of his Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to self-publish a unique book of photographs and essays about wine entitled The Essence of Wine: Celebrating the Delights of the Palate.
The highly subscribed crowdfunding campaign raised 134% of its target amount, and generated buzz across many social media channels. "I'm thrilled with the results," said Yarrow. "It's great to see people respond to a new way of exploring the amazing world of wine."
The Essence of Wine will be a hardcover, coffee table book version of the collaboration that Yarrow began on his blog in 2012 with award-winning food photographer Leigh Beisch. The book celebrates and explores the many aromas and flavours found in wine through a stunning photograph and essay about each "essence" accompanied by recommendations for wines that express that particular taste or scent. An eBook version is also planned.
More than 400 copies of the book have already been sold, and Yarrow continues to accept pre-orders on his web site. Delivery of the hardcover is expected in April.
