The Michelin Guide has announced that it will has announced that it will be updating its list of recommended establishments monthly following its switch to being digital in 2021. The latest development from the guide will see additions of what's hot and trending rather than just the best of the best on the final Wednesday of every month.
The 2021 list is the first to be published digitally rather than in print, as well as being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic which forced those venues on the list to close their doors for much of the year. Michelin dutifully stepped up and promised it support for the industry and this latest announcement is one way in which the guide and brand can showcase a larger number of venues without diluting the value of the prestigious Michelin stars themselves.
In the first announcement of recommended establishments included three London venues this August - Sumi, the sushi bar from Endo Kazutoshi; Hornsey bakery Big Jo; plus Native's Mayfair opening at Brown's.
It remains to be seen whether the new monthly recommendations will feature in the annual star awards that will remain in place as per usual. One other new addition in 2021 to the stars is the green star, which notionally recognises "sustainability".
