Tomos Parry's Brat Named SquareMeal's London Restaurant of 2020

Tomos Parry, speaker at our recent Trends Event 2019, has won the accolade of London Restaurant of 2020 by SquareMeal. The Shoreditch-based restaurant, which already boasts a Michelin Star to its name, assumes the top spot having finished runner up behind Clare Smyth's highly acclaimed Core last year.

Brat was inspired by Basque cuisine, with its signature dish being grilled whole turbot - the restaurant's name, 'Brat', is an old English slang word for the fish. The restaurant was named Best Newcomer at the Harden's London Restaurant Awards 2018 and received its first star in the Michelin Guide UK and Ireland 2019.

"I really admire the past winners of SquareMeal's Restaurant of the Year and I'm grateful to join them," said Parry of the award. "It's a special thing for all of us at Brat: to win an award that reflects both critic and diner opinion is really exciting. It shows that our guests appreciate what we're doing."

The annual SquareMeal rankings are compiled from a mixture of readers' votes in SquareMeal's annual surveys, page views for restaurants and the verdicts of the guide's in-house critics.

Core slipped down into second place, ahead of Tom Kerridge's first restaurant, Kerridge's Bar & Grill. The top 10 is then completed by Scott's in Mayfair, The Wolseley, The Ledbury, Pollen Street Social, Orasay, Gloria and Sabor: The Counter. See the complete 100 List here.
