The annual Estrella Damm Top 50 UK Gastropubs list has this month been announced with 2022 winner The Unruly Pig, Woodbridge, stepping back up to the stop of the list where owner Brendan Padfield and head chef Dave Wall serve filling and well-crafted pub food in an environment that reflects the personalities of the people behind the stunning venue.
The Unruly Pig has climbed the list rapidly since its debut in 2017, with a monthly changing menu built on the foundations of produce from coastal and local suppliers. The food is a cross between British and Italian cuisine, something a little different to the usual pub fare. An impressive drinks menu features over 60 wines and bubbles by the glass alongside ales, draughts and craft beers too.
The rest of the top 10 features some regular names to the list, including last year's winner The Parkers Arms, Clitheroe, Lancashire, in seventh place as well as Tom Kerridge's Michelin starred The Hand & Flowers, Marlow, Buckinghamshire, in 10th.
The full top 10 is as follows:
1. The Unruly Pig, Woodbridge, Suffolk
2. The Cornish Arms, Tavistock, Devon
3. The Mariners, Rock, Cornwall
4. The Fordwich Arms, Canterbury, Kent
5. The Sportsman, Seasalter, Kent
