Three of Melbourne's smartest Sommeliers will battle each other at Lakeside, Albert Park as they pit for votes at Warriors of Wine - the annual Sommeliers Australia Long Lunch on August 7th.
Matching their choice of wines to three savoury courses prepared by chefs from three of Melbourne's finest dining establishments, they will draw the battle lines against one another, with one sommelier to rule them all.
The chosen warriors are Christian McCabe from Embla, Ashley Boburka from Rockpool Bar and Grill Melbourne, and Harry Hunter from Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. With the advantage of one of each of the dishes coming from their own venues, the challenge will be to present three wines to match each of the dishes presented, with the winner to be determined by the gathered wine and food lovers of Melbourne. The winner will be the 2016 Sommeliers Australia Warrior of Wine.
Sommeliers Australia President, David Lawler, said of the event "We are thrilled to have three of Melbourne's most exciting restaurants presenting dishes as part of the Sommeliers Australia Long Lunch, and to have three of Melbourne's best Somms taking on the challenge of matching something interesting with each course. We are looking forward to enjoying what will be on offer."
The 2016 event will be more thrilling and much more delicious than ever before. Now in to its eighth year, the Warriors of Wine Long Lunch is the key fundraiser for Sommeliers Australia to assist our local talent in competition on the world stage. The funds from the last event helped to send MC Banjo Harris Plane to compete in the world competition in Argentina earlier this year.
