Following a crowd funding campaign during the summer of 2015 the Danish NGO "Folkekirkens Nødhjælp" is now able to open a supermarket selling only food that cannot be sold in a conventional supermarket. This can be because of production flaws in packaging or a date of expiry surpassed.
WeFood is driven by volunteers and the aim is to reduce the annual 700,000 ton of food waste in Denmark, whereof a lot still is in perfect condition for consumption. The revenue of the supermarket will go directly to projects of the NGO in the world's poorest countries.
