Australian supermarket chain Woolworths has partnered with Coeliac Australia to provide sufferers with a 5% discount on gluten-free products from both Woolworths and Metro shops; as well as online via authorised cards.
As awareness increases of the serious affliction, a greater offering of specific goods are coming to market rapidly, with the supermarket chain now offering more than 40 products to help those living with the autoimmune based condition.
In Australia, an average of 1 in 70 has Coeliac Disease, though more than 270,000 remain undiagnosed and unable to ascertain how best to live with the symptoms.
The announcement is part of the greater Coeliac Awareness Week, taking place from March 13th – 20th, seeking to improve awareness, increasing testing and diagnosis.
Michelle Laforest, Coeliac Australia Chief Executive Officer, said of the effort: "The price of gluten-free food is an important consideration for people living with Coeliac Disease, and over a year this discount will make a positive difference for our members.
"Coeliac Disease is hard to spot and the campaign shows the range of symptoms that goes beyond just 'gut' issues. It also encourages people to visit their GP for screening before switching to a gluten-free diet."
