British food and beverage manufacturer Bel UK has introduced a new plant-based, dairy-free version of its Boursin garlic and herb spreadable cheese, in time for Christmas.
The new alternative is made from a combination of potato starch, coconut oil, and water, plus the same garlic, parsley, and chives combination for which Boursin is so recognisable. The launch comes after research by Bel UK found that up to 58% of shoppers rarely buy plant-based cheese, with the new version tempting them to give it a try.
"We've worked to ensure the flavour, texture, and packaging of new Boursin Plant-Based aligns with all the key purchase drivers that our shoppers expect from dairy Boursin," said Anna Petsi, senior brand manager at Boursin. "Consumers tell us they really love the taste and texture."
The new product launch is the latest in Bel Group's alternatives to its well known cheese brands which include Babybel and The Laughing Cow. Bel Group announced back in 2020 that it would aim to introduce a plant-based version of each of its leading brands, targeting 50% of revenue to come from plant-based and animal-free products by 2030.
