Key Insights From Our Baby & Children 2026 Categorywatching Report

Some of the most inventive and exciting innovation in the food and drink world, is targeted specifically for little ones. As the saying goes, you have to start them on good habits young! And that goes for good eating habits, too.

The TFP team has been busy trawling menus and shelves, to pull together our Baby & Children 2026 categorywatching deep-dive - looking at new formats, trending flavours, convenience, health-centric innovation and more.

Three top takeouts from this year's report are:

  1. Tempting Textures – Textures have become an important feature across all food and drink - and especially in the baby food aisle. Essential for motor skill development, variety helps keeps kids interested and engaged making for a more pleasant mealtime experience for all. Think creamy porridge, wiggly jelly, crunchy coatings and puffed grains – the same things grownup palates love too, just in smaller, simpler formats.
  2. Less is More – In the wake of increased UPF scrutiny, producers are getting clean and clear about exactly what is going into their products. The spotlight is on clean packaging (no plastics, please!) alongside whole foods, low intervention for maximum nutrition. A shorter clearer ingredient list also means less decision fatigue for caregivers, too. 'Less but better' is the name of the game.
  3. Quick! – As anyone who has ever raced against the toddler tantrum clock will know, children and babies don't understand the phrase "it's almost ready". For time-strapped parents and hungry babies, convenience is a key factor for feeding time. No surprise then, that the ante is being upped on the likes of ready-to-go pouches, pre-portioned snacks for lunchboxes, and 'just add liquid' varieties. Because time is, indeed, precious!
