That's right, blouge - a portmanteau of blanc + rouge - is making waves in the drinks-sphere. And why not! After all, combining red and white grapes is nothing new. From the peasant tradition-turned-hipster revival of field blends to the lofty world of Champagne, winemakers have long mixed the two. And now, riding the popularity of 'new wave' and 'minimal intervention' winemaking - blouge producers are proudly touting their organic, biodynamic or zero-zero credentials.

It's easy to see why these wines are quickly garnering a multitude of - with enjoyment for the 'here and now', rather than long cellar ageing, central to their creation. Think playful fruity flavours, plenty of juicy acidity and nice crunchy phenolics. Chilled down to around 10 degrees, blouge is just right for a cheeky glass in the afternoon sun, but equally appropriate with foods like charcuterie, cheese, pizza and grilled meats… summer evenings are calling, indeed!
