McDonald's France Collaborates with Beyond Meat to Launch Vegan Nuggets

Global leading QSR chain McDonald's has launched the new Veggie McPlant Nuggets in France, a vegan alternative to the popular chicken original. The new menu item will be available across its 1,560 restaurants nationwide.

The McPlant Nuggets have been developed in collaboration with plant-based, vegan meat producer Beyond Meat, with the bite-sized chunks made using protein coated in a wheat and cornflour breading. The nuggets are a permanent addition to the menu, differing from previous limited-edition plant-based items featured in McDonald's France outlets - the chain's second largest market after the US.

"We chose to innovate with a first offering based on plant proteins, directly inspired by one of our iconic products," said McDonald's France CMO Jean-Guillaume Bertola. "With the Veggie McPlant Nuggets, we are responding to the increasing desire of French consumers to diversify their protein intake while never compromising on taste."

The collaboration with Beyond Meat marks an extension of an already successful partnership for McDonald's in Europe, one that has seen the McPlant burger become a popular option on the continent.

Back in the UK, McDonald's has been working on something too, reintroducing the McRib - a burger made with with pork, barbecue sauce, pickles and onions. The item originally launched back in 1981 but was discontinued in 2015. One item Brits can't yet get their hands on, but customers at McDonald's restaurants in the US and Spain can, is the adult Happy Meal. The box has even been redesigned in collaboration with sitcom Friends to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic 90s show.
