At the recent annual Outdoor Advertising Association of America's OBIE Awards, Corona Extra was honored with the the 2016 OBIE Hall of Fame Award which recognises "consistent excellence in out of home advertising design over many decades."
Corona Extra is the number one import in the U.S. and the number five beer overall, continually setting sales records amongst the major brands in the industry. Last year, 2015, marked Corona's biggest sales year to date with more than 116 million cases sold in the U.S. Since 1999, Cramer-Krasselt has been the creative agency of record for Corona Extra and created the "Find Your Beach" campaign that, for almost 20 years, has captivated consumers and driven results for the brand. Constellation Brands is the exclusive brewer, marketer and supplier of Corona Extra for the United States.
Corona's iconic advertisements are known for their ability to effortlessly get consumers into the beach-state-of-mind. OBIE judges, representing top industry leaders, applauded Corona for its "simple and award winning work that transports you to another place." In fact, Cramer-Krasselt's work for Corona Extra has garnered numerous awards and accolades including Effies, ADDYs, Webbys, and One Show and Communication Arts honors. Notably, the "Luna Corona" work that aligned the moon with a billboard in New York City won a Cannes Lion in 2014.
In addition to industry honors, the campaign has found its way into popular culture, being both spoofed and seriously contemplated. In 2010, Corona Extra's famous "Squirt" commercial was parodied by Saturday Night Live and Family Guy. In 2014, author Zadie Smith's essay "Find Your Beach" appeared in the New York Review of Books. It begins as an assessment of the giant advertisement outside her window then transforms into an ode to Brooklyn, where she has ultimately found her personal beach.
