High street QSR bakery chain Greggs has opened its first London airport site last month with its new shop in Gatwick Airport's South Terminal as the brand expands across key transport hubs.
The location marks Greggs' eighth airport location in the UK and will feature the full menu that customers can normally expect from the chain, including breakfast deals, bakes and sweet treats, freshly-made sandwiches, as well as hot offerings such as potato wedges and chicken goujons.
The strategic move to open more airport stores is part of a wider growth goal of having 150 net new shops in 2023. Other transport hub locations already opened this year include Canary Wharf Station in London and Glasgow International Airport amongst others.
Property Director at Greggs, Tony Rowson said of the new opening: "Our versatile shop formats, new digital channels and relationships with our franchise and wholesale partners have enabled us to adapt our offering and expand in many new locations such as supermarkets, shopping centres and key transport hubs, like the Gatwick Airport. This new shop is also indicative of the next generation of shop refits and will feature state-of-the-art design to ensure customers have a brilliant experience when they visit."
This grow trends in line with a continued increase in consumer choice of more affordable food options both on the go and when dining out too in line with the cost of living crisis and squeeze on finances.
The Breakfast Club also opened a new location at Gatwick Airport at the same time as Greggs.
