July - This Month in Food & Beverage Trends

What was the industry talking about in this month 5, 10, 15 or even 20 years ago?

Each month, we'll be taking a look back through two decades of food and beverage trend forecasting, revisiting what was emerging, growing, and peaking during this month in years gone by.

  • 2009 - This was the first year for canned wine. Australian company Barokes made history when their Cabernet Shiraz Merlot won Gold Medal at the Berlin Wine Trophy Awards. Each serve is 250ml, with light cans that can be easily recycled.
  • 2013 - Five Guys, the US burger chain, came to London and consumers were thrilled. The menus were small and simple and have remained this way today. There are burgers with as many toppings as you can manage, plus the odd hot-dog; all served with fries, soda or beer.
  • 2017 - More delights emerged from the treasure trove of Dominique Ansel's creative team. The kiwi sorbet, previously only available in the New York bakery, came across the pond to London. The sweet treat was a marvel to look at and even more marvellous to eat, as Ansel played with our senses, and celebrated a typically underrepresented fruit.
  • 2022 - Japanese brand Lemonade by Lemonica opened a pop up shop in London's Soho for one weekend only. Offering glasses of lemonade made-to-order, customers could choose from their original lemonade, matcha lemonade, and fruit lemonades such as yuzu and strawberry.
  • 2025 - The viral Cake Picnic Tour swept into London, transforming parks into pastel-filled, frosting fuelled gatherings where hundreds of fans sliced, shared and celebrated outrageously whimsical cakes.

The best way to understand what's next is often to understand what came before. Discover the full story in our latest 20 Years in Food & Beverage Trends e-book, featuring two decades of trend evolution, consumer shifts and future opportunities.
