Key Insights From Our Beer, Wine & Spirits 2025 Categorywatching Report

The Beer, Wine & Spirits category is one of the most exciting spaces in the food and drink universe. Factors like cost of living, climate change, and fundamental shifts in drinking culture have created big shifts, and also paved the way for both innovation and evolution.

Our categorywatching Beer, Wine & Spirits 2025 report delves into all of this, as well as honing in on flavours and ingredients, format twists, no/low tipples, health and sustainability trends… and much more!

Three top takeouts from our report are:

  1. New-age Ageing – We're all familiar with beers and spirits being aged in bourbon or sherry barrels, but how about tequila aged in trendy orange wine oak, or whisky double-aged in bourbon and crémant barrels? Producers are broadening the flavour spectrum through innovative ageing processes that range from the use of ancient terracotta amphora to leaving whisky to sweat it out in a sauna (no, really!) - bringing a whole new meaning to a 'hot toddy!'
  2. Goodbye, Glass – The carbon impact of weighty glass is coming under scrutiny, with producers looking for less impactful, and more cost-effective, ways to package their wine while preserving its integrity: the answer may well lie in aluminium – or even paper. Wine in cans is nothing new, but recent launches using both aluminium and paper-based bottles mark a significant move away from the RTD sector into full-scale 75cl territory. As the traditional bottle is swapped out for lightweight, kerbside recyclable alternatives, could glass soon be a thing of the past?
  3. Piquant Plonk – Things are hotting up online as the latest viral phenomenon to hit the socials is 'Spicy Sauvy B' – which, for non-zillennials, means chilled Sauvignon Blanc served with a slice (or three) of jalapeño. Bizarre as that may sound, it speaks to a broader embracing of heat and spice across the category as the consumer palate grows ever more adventurous … and before you scoff, some TikTok users are claiming they'll now never drink their wine any other way. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it!
