Smooth, rich, iconic… Good old Guinness has been riding a wave of popularity in recent months.
Relatively easy drinking, with complex sweet-savoury-chocolatey notes – Guinness is like a trusted old friend, and stands out for being straightforward and reliably delicious. And it's not just seasoned old timers with time for it – Gen Z have turned it into a viral sensation – thanks in no small part to the popularity of 0.0 Guinness and, of course, the 'splitting the G' trend! (In case you're wondering, that means getting the head of the beverage to 'split the G' of the logo on the glass within the first few mouthfuls – no stopping, no peeking!)
But the popularity of Guinness stretches far beyond social media challenges; it's also being celebrated as an ingredient in its own right! Guinness milkshakes for instance are gaining traction – often topped with a plethora of sweet goodies like ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce. And there are coffee-crossovers aplenty… Guinness cold brew float, anyone?
And don't forget about its untapped potential as an ingredient in dishes, too! Guinness is being used to amp up flavour depth in bread and butter; think malty loaves with Guinness butter. And it's a natural star in gravies, sauces and marinades for rich meat dishes like Guinness-braised short rib, or coffee and Guinness-glazed ribs. Plus – save room for pud! Because Guinness can add rich chocolaty flavour to anything from ice cream sundaes to chocolate cake.
