London's first Mochi Bar has opened at the Japan Centre, Leicester Square, serving up these increasingly popular rice cakes which have taken social media by storm.
Freshly baked each day, the simply named Mochi Bar's menu includes: Mochi Donuts Pon de Ring (using mochiko rice flour for a sweet, crispy texture); Mochi Dango (chewy rice balls on a skewer that come lathered in a sweet sauce)Mochi Cookies in a range of tasty flavours including matcha and sakura; Mochi Daifuku, which is your regular and well recognised soft and chewy mochi rice ball with a sweet red-bean centre; and, of course, the ever popular Mochi Ice Cream.
The Japan Centre has become London's newest and msot vibrant destination for Japanese food fans. The Leicester Square flagship store combines many of the traditional elements of a 'depachika' (Japanese for a basement food hall) with a range of unique rooms, each set around a number of open kitchens and a central dine-in courtyard.
