In no particular order, six highlights from the comprehensive foodwatching and drinkswatching new opening reports are:
Kassi, Venice Beach, Los Angeles
Located on the rooftop of Hotel Erwin, Kassi serves a Greek and Eastern Mediterranean inspired mezze, grilled skewers and salad menu.
The menu will include Spanakopita Quesadilla, Fried Courgette Chips, Crispy Saganaki with Fresno Chilli Jam and Cucumber, Tomato and Feta Salad, and that is just the starters menu. Lamb Meatball Skewers with Pomegranate Molasses, Beef Tenderloin with Red Chermoula and Harissa Honey Chicken are a few of the mains.
Little Fires, East London
Opened by Christian Pecoraro, Florian Schulze and Horacio Sainz. The team from Sabina Sabe, one of The World's Best Bars (Mexico), has created the cocktail list for this Mexican style bar.
The list features a wide selection of mezcal and tequila, and their partnership with Asunción Mezcal offers some interesting and rare mezcals.
Food is from the winner of Top Chef Mexico, Chef Rodolfo Castellanos. The menu is inspired by Oaxaca and is made up of snacks and small plates, designed to complement the drinks.
Rovollo Restaurant and Wine Room, Sydney
Rovollo Restaurant and Wine Room is a homely Italian restaurant that makes its own pasta and focaccia daily.
Food includes arancini, beef tartare, fried burrata, salumi, grilled meats and seafood. There is also a caviar service and seafood towers. Their signature dish is Pici Carbonara served tableside that is set alight and tossed in a 20-kilo wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano.
For dessert they have a 24-layer dark chocolate cake with a rosemary infused berry compote. Drinks include a seven-sip cocktail list and includes a savoury Napoli made with focaccia charred vermouth, burrata whey, basil and tomato oil.
Ferment, Perth
Ferment is a back-room bar that has a self-serve beer wall with 26 taps of craft brews.
There are also wines on tap along with ready-to-pour cocktails. Customers can have as much or as little as they like; there will be Beer Wall Ambassadors to help with choices. Food is from a tapas menu or larger crowd-pleasing choices.
The Corner Shop, London
The Corner Shop is a new concept store that is a mix of businesses with a grocer, delicatessen, café, bakery and wine bar all in one.
Found at 180 Arundel Street (AKA 180 Strand), the store was opened by Nick Jones, founder of Soho House. Products on sale come from local well known London companies such as E5 Bakehouse, Populations Bakery, Gelupo and some of The Corner Shop own in-store prepared foods. At night, the spot transforms into a Mediterranean-inspired wine bar that also serves food.
Pitch the Baby, Seattle
Pitch the Baby is a new sports bar designed for women and is headed up by Monica Dimas, Anais Custer and Kimfer Flanery-Rye.
The bar menu is influenced by timeless cocktails like a Pimm's Cup, G&T's and classic martinis. The wine list is based around natural wines, for beer there is Peroni on tap, and secret special drinks that vary depending on the sports game, with cocktails for each team playing. The food will be Mexican with a twist.
