With Christmas pudding on the demise and unwanted at Christmas by many, supermarket Sainsbury's has been trying to drum up interest with a limited time only Christmas pudding pop-up - Pud You Dare Café.
The new, free pop-up was open for just two days from 24-25th November on at 62–64 Southampton Row, London WC1B, where guests had the opportunity to try either a traditional pudding, or Sainsbury's new Taste the Difference Caramelised Biscuit Pudding. The new caramelised pud features a spiced caramel sauce and is sprinkled with caramelised biscuit crumb – and has made the shelves following research which showed that salted caramel is among the nation's favourite dessert flavours.
Will this be the new flavour that gets more of the nation back eating Christmas puddings this festive season?
Director of Product & Innovation at Sainsbury's, Claire Hughes said: "Our insights revealed that the past three years has seen the biggest shift in flavours favoured by the nation than any other timeframe.
"The Christmas pudding has slowly fallen from favour, but many of those who have written it off completely have never even tried it. We hope our café gives them the opportunity to change their minds."
One positive to already come from the limited time only location was Sainsbury's donating £3 on behalf of each pop-up customer to Comic Relief – to help tackle food poverty this winter.
