Trending in the news this week was the announcement that London is to get its first vegan fried chicken restaurant ... but how? Those vegans out there who feel like they've been missing out on the delights of KFC and other fried chicken chains don't have much longer to wait as Temple of Seitan is set to bring its fried meat substitute, seitan, made from wheat gluten to the capital.
Temple of Seitan recently said: "In January 2017, we'll be opening London's (and maybe the world's!) 1st 100% vegan chicken shop. We're looking forward to providing a vegan alternative for Londoners craving a bit of takeaway."
What is seitan? Rebecca McGuinness from Temple of Seitan explains: "Seitan is a meat alternative made from wheat protein powder. It can be made with gluten flour, water and seasonings that best emulate the flavours of the meat you are trying to replicate. We make all of our own Seitan from scratch."
Currently a street food pop-up, Temple of Seitan is set for its first bricks and mortar venture in 2017. Follow their journey on Facebook and Instagram.
