The Olive Oil Guy Unveils The Sommelier's Selection

The Olive Oil Guy, Mazen Assaf, has just unveiled The Sommelier's Selection, a handpicked collection that showcases the finest olive oils from across the Mediterranean, available to purchase this November.

Mazen, a certified olive oil sommelier, has dedicated his life to exploring the depths of olive oil's craftsmanship. His passion ignited during a transformative journey through the groves of Spain, Italy, and Greece. Mazen has since collaborated with Michelin-starred Joel Robuchon and now shares his expertise with future culinary masters as a lecturer at the renowned Le Cordon Bleu.

His passion for olive oil really went public when he launched the First Edition Can, an oil that was stocked by a number of prestigious retailers including Harrods and DELLI. Now, Mazen has further elevated his craft with The Sommelier's Selection — a premium collection that redefines how olive oil should be experienced.

The Sommelier's Selection features six meticulously sourced olive oils from Italy, Spain, Greece, and Lebanon. Each bottle reflects the richness of its origin, from the biodiverse, centuries-old farms where the olives are cultivated. These oils go beyond being ingredients—they embody a journey through the Mediterranean, crafted for refined palates and the most discerning chefs.

The collection includes:

  • Frantoio from Puglia, Italy: Bitterness with a smooth almond finish.
  • Coratina from Puglia, Italy: Bold, peppery, with wild rocket notes.
  • Koroneiki from Peloponnese, Greece: Fruity, fresh, with hints of green olive.
  • Manaki from Peloponnese, Greece: Sweet, with a bright citrusy finish.
  • Picual from Andalucia, Spain: Herbaceous, with strong tomato leaf aromas.
  • Souriani from Chouf, Lebanon: Earthy, aromatic, with a touch of rosemary.

This curated selection offers an unparalleled tasting experience, revealing the complexity and beauty of each olive oil much like a fine wine. From smooth and delicate to bold and peppery, every bottle tells the story of its land and the generations of craftsmanship behind it.
