The 2016 World's 50 Best Bars award winners were announced last night, with New York's The Dead Rabbit taking the step up to the top spot after two years as number two. London's The Savoy's American Bar was crowned best bar in Europe and the second best bar in the world.
This a fantastic achievement for The Savoy and the American Bar and Bar Manager, Declan McGurk said of their success: "We are incredibly proud of this recognition, which clearly demonstrates our commitment to honouring the legacy of the American Bar whilst pushing the boundaries of the bar industry."
The American Bar may be the longest-surviving cocktail bar in the UK, and one of the most iconic in the world, but its continuous reinvention shows that the bar is still very much at the forefront of the beverage industry. In January this year The American Bar launched The London Menu - a brand new cocktail menu that combines theatre and storytelling, as it takes guests on a journey around six of the London boroughs that surround The Savoy.
London had several of the highest ranked bars in the awards, with Dandelyan in third place, just ahead of the Connaught Bar in fourth. New York again featured to round out the top five, with Attaboy.
6. The Gibson, London
7. Employees Only, New York
8. Nomad Bar, New York
9. The Clumsies, Athens
10. Happiness Forgets, London
