Globally renowned food photographer, Thomas Schauer, recently announced he will be
collaborating with Chef Dominique Ansel to photograph his debut cookbook, titled "DOMINQUE ANSEL: The Secret Recipes" (working title) to be published in October 2014 by Simon & Schuster. Schauer's ideally suited for the engagement given his ability to expose the essence of gourmet, mass, and iconic fare, creating unique and compelling images.
Food photography requires creativity, a skilled eye, and a deep understanding of the
fare and its creator. A long known talent among the world's leading chefs, Schauer is an elegant food curator who renders the palette and captures the imagination through his inspired work. Chefs Daniel Boulud, Jose Andres, David Bouley, Spice Master Lior Lev Sercarz and Dominique Ansel, all consider him a trusted artistic advisor. He lends
this same expertise to leading organizations and brands including Wegman's Food Markets, Nespresso and Uncle Ben's.
Having worked with Chef Ansel for many years, Ansel selected Schauer to photograph his debut cookbook. "This is a cookbook about one man, one small bakery, and how a
really good pastry can reach the world," said Ansel. "Its purpose is not just to teach cooks how to replicate a recipe, but to inspire them to innovate beyond it."
"Thomas is more than just a photographer – he's a mind reader. When I envision the
ultimate image for a dessert, Thomas makes that image magically appear in a photograph. A true professional and an unbelievable artist, Thomas creatively depicts every element of a shoot to portray a comprehensive, photographic story," says Chef Dominique Ansel.
A native of Austria, with studios in New York City and Vienna, Schauer's international
background produces a distinctive style that showcases the status of the current global food environment. His work spans the food spectrum – applying high-end techniques to all categories – imbuing a sense of elegance to all food types. Specifically for Chefs, his work encapsulates their distinguished talents, artistry, restaurants, award-winning cookbooks and more.
"As the author of nine cookbooks, I have worked extensively with many photographers over the years. Of everyone I have ever worked with, I've been most impressed by Thomas' uniquely creative work as a photographer. I consistently turn to him as my trusted artistic collaborator," says Chef Daniel Boulud.
Schauer's 16th cookbook, in collaboration with Boulud, Daniel: My French Cuisine, was launched on October 15th 2013, with three additional ones being published in 2014.
