This spring sees a welcome new addition to the South Kensington restaurant scene as exciting Asian eatery Umami opens its doors on 14 March.
Ideally located on Cromwell Road, Umami will offer a creative and authentic menu of both small and sharing plates, with influences from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Korea.
Served in two sizes, to taste or to share, tapas-style dishes will include perennial favourites such as chicken satay and Thai fish cakes alongside signature creations like sweet basil, garlic and peppercorn tossed squid.
The menu will also include a comprehensive selection of salads, soups, noodles and curries together with grilled and pan- or wok-fried dishes like Ped Makham (pan seared duck with tamarind and mange tout) and Ikan Bakar (grilled red snapper in banana leaf served with sweet tamarind and chilli.)
Complementing this à la carte offering will be a selection of equally mouth-watering set menus, comprising Malaysian (to include delicacies such as Soup Kambing - lamb rib meat slow cooked in mild spiced broth and root vegetable served with French loaf), Thai (including traditional fare like Gang Kiew Wan Gai - green curry with chicken, peas, aubergine and baby corn) and a superb Asian Tasting Menu that boasts delicacies such as Malaysian Beef Rendang, Indonesian Curry and Vietnamese Spring Rolls.
Heading up the kitchens will be award-winning chef Darren Kutty. Formerly Head Chef at both the Ramada Hyde Park and The Washington Hotel in Mayfair.
Umami’s innovative design is the work of Roy Kirby of the renowned Design Coalition Partnership. The team worked closely with a feng shui master who was handpicked by the restaurant’s Singaporean owners.
Umami will open for lunch Monday to Friday from 12pm to 3pm and for dinner Monday to Sunday from 5pm to 10.30pm.
