Premium British supermarket chain Waitrose is launching a new range of takeaway pizzas, sides and dips this month, designed to emulate getting a takeaway from your favourite pizzeria.
The new collection has been described by Waitrose as the 'ultimate fakeaway', and features four pizzas, four sides and two dips. The Urban Pizza range includes:
The Big Cheeseburger - all the great taste of a gourmet cheeseburger in a pizza, on a deep and fluffy Detroit-style base. With tomato sauce, three cheeses, peppered beef, smoky bacon and a sachet of tangy burger sauce. Plus gherkins.
The Carbonara - A stretched and stonebaked 12" base with a classic crust. With pasta, smoky bacon and black pepper, topped with garlic bechamel, and shaved, diced mozzarella.
The Pepperoni - A hand-stretched and stonebaked 12" base topped with tomato and mascarpone sauce, mozzarella, smoky pepperoni and hot honey drizzle.
The Margherita - A hand-stretched and stonebaked 12" base with a cheese crumb crust, topped with tomato sauce, and shaved, diced mozzarella.
The accompanying sides include a Garlic Flatbread, Mac 'n' Cheese Bites, Mozzarella Sticks, and Garlic Doughballs. Whilst the dips feature a Garlic or a Hot Sauce Dipper.
Zoe Simons, Senior Development Chef at Waitrose, said: "The urban pizza scene is booming with restaurants opening all around the world, so we wanted to give our customers the same great taste and trends at home. We already have our Waitrose No.1 and Waitrose Stonebaked pizza ranges, which our customers know and love - Urban Pizza has given us the opportunity to experiment and to bring new and exciting pizza trends from the urban pizza scene to shelves.
"Designed with sharing in mind, customers will be able to pick up a whole feast to bring family and friends together for a weekend treat. The only difficulty will be deciding who gets the last slice!"
The pizzas will offer a more cost effective alternative to a standard takeaway at £5.50 each, whilst the sides cost £3.25 each and £1.50 for an additional dip.
