Rather, these are innovative, balanced, spirit forward concoctions that have plenty of backbone – offering up plenty of tastebud-tickling thought-provoking satisfaction in terms of alcohol, complexity and sophistication.
Indeed, despite its status as the world's most popular fruit – banana has been historically under-represented in the cocktail sphere. But no more! Now mixologists are exploring the fruits versatility, proving it can shine in many guises. It can offset the vanilla sweetness of rum, or even the nutty complexity of sherry. And it can also complement all manner of other ingredients – from chocolate to coffee to tropical fruit.
So whatever your palate there's a banana cocktail out there for you… Banana Bourbon Foster, Platano Margarita, Banana Bird, King Banana Negroni… you name it! And banana essence is even being imparted into neat spirits, liqueurs and syrups. Banana butter washed whiskey, anyone? Sign us up for one (or two!)
