You're scrolling through January sales, spotting the gifts you bought now 'half price or less', but feeling buoyed by a freezer full of yellow-stickered bargains.... Our top insights from the report include...

  1. Quality Not Quantity: The continued squeeze of the cost of living, didn't bring out the Scrooge in us; instead, it saw many consumers spending 'a little more on less', with quality taking pride of place.
  2. No Washing Up: Conversely, some consumers opted to dispense with the idea of a home-cooked meal altogether, as well as the dreaded washing up! Instead, they turned to their favourite restaurants to provide them with a stress-free Christmas; and in turn, restaurants upped the ante on their Christmas offer with lots of gourmet and creative twists.
  3. Global Inspiration: This departure from tradition continued, with Christmas classics being reinterpreted by drawing from other global cuisines. We're talking porchetta-filled gyoza dumplings, harissa pigs-in-blankets, tandoori turkeys, kouign amann mince pies, and tropical takes on the Bûche Noël.
  4. New Wave Marketing: Big brands looked for new ways to appeal to consumers, beyond the classic Christmas telly advert. Irreverent reels, AI-generated visuals, pop culture nods… And on the experiential side, campaigns went up a notch, too; e.g. mince pies offered through holes in the wall, and pigs-in-blankets pop up restaurants.
