In no particular order, six highlights from the comprehensive foodwatching and drinkswatching new opening reports are:

Cantina by Chefs Warehouse, Stellenbosch

Cantina is a tapas eatery and bar that is designed to be like a pintxos bar in San Sebastián in Spain. Chef and co-owner David Schneider will be creating paella for sharing, seafood, big meat cuts and lots of small plates. He has also given a nod to Peru with ceviche and escabeche twists soon to appear.

The Shaston Arms, Soho London

The Shaston Arms in Soho is owned by Joe Grossman founder of Patty & Bun and The Waterman's Arms in Barnes.

Head chef Sam Andrews' menu will feature dishes such as fennel with smoked cod's roe, a merguez-fries baguette, celeriac fritter with a leek vinaigrette. They also serve a Sunday lunch featuring beef, porchetta and chicken.

7 Alfred, Melbourne

7 Alfred in Melbourne is a new concept restaurant that is dedicated to one dish only, Steak Frites.

They will be serving 220-gram Gippsland's O'Connor Scotch fillet (aka ribeye steak to us Brits). The MB2+ O'Connor, grass-fed Black Angus beef is said to give the best flavour and marbling. The steaks are served with frites cooked in beef tallow, with a choice of Umami Butter, Chimichurri, Peppercorn Sauce or Veal Jus. Guests can add salad for a fresh touch.

Barnacle, Georgian Quarter, Liverpool

Opened by father and son Harry and Paul Askew, Barnacle is a bar and restaurant.

The bar, snug and terrace will serve both classic and new cocktails, wines, including wine from Henners Vineyard in Sussex, craft beers and bar snacks such as cheesy chips, Jerusalem artichoke, garlic and parmesan.

They will be serving organic and free-range ingredients that focus on the seasons. Working with artisans, producers and farmers from Merseyside, the menu will reflect the history of the area's gastronomy.

Chotto Matte, Deansgate Manchester

Japanese-Peruvian Chotto Matte is by Kurt Zdesar and will be serving Nikkei cuisine.

It is said that the 502-cover restaurant and 348-capacity roof terrace will be one of the biggest restaurants in the UK. Executive Chef Jordan Sclare will be serving dishes such as black cod aji miso or king oyster mushroom tostados and will be based around Japanese cooking techniques and Peruvian ingredients. They will use local high-quality ingredients sourced from producers using ethical practises, giving an authentic and eco-conscious experience for diners.
